In continuation of the senior Mylaporeans meet hosted by Vasunmathy and Radha in the recent months the idea seems to have been picked by the elders and this week the meet was only for senior ladies ,consequent to many requests from ladies.

The octogenarian ladies met at the residence of Radha in Murrays gate road. The ladies were very relaxed and needless to say that the most enthusiastic was VC Kamala also the eldest present. She remembered a lot of the festivities that went with this season.Mrs Saraswathi recalled her younger days when she was a 10year old and she wore the ottiyanam, manga malai, and many more jewels with the 'pavadai chokkai' and just walked to different houses for vethlai pakku.with no security!and no fear too!
Mrs Kamala spoke of her days when she said ,they would return with bags full of sundal and fruits .
Mrs Kausalya Ramaswami who remembered her teens in Chennai, said that was the time when plastic made a big entry in the market and different shapes and sizes of kumkuma chimizh were the fashion to be given away. She also said the concept of a date for the kolu started then in the fifities.and it was a/' fashion to ' to send out printed invitations.
Anuradha( in her late fifties) remembered that in delhi she was dressed up as Krishna during navarathri. Her mother Mrs RajalakshmiSrinivasan recalled that the famous writer Mr SUjatha used to help in decorating her kolu very aesthetically.
Everyone present agreed that the present day/' gift giving' was not the idea of a kolu then ,only the sundal as a healthy snack was the attraction.
We broke up on a note of good friendship promising to meet soon .
