NAMMALWAR MOKSHAM-- Thirunaal--3-01-2013

NAMMALWAR MOKSHAM----3-01-2013
Good Friends told us to be present in Thirumamani mandapam around  1am. And here we were ,at 12.45 am. There are about 400 –500 people scattered about already. Some sitting, some sleeping, some standing, some singing bajans with a dolak,  but all waiting for the famed Arayar sevai….today is special because Nammalwar’s last few hymns are sung and the ideeham that he goes to Moksham. We see Namperumal satnding erect, sentinel to all our souls, wearing his famous Virutchi malai, looking more kingly, and resplendent in HIS kasthuri thilakam and kousthubham. In front of HIM there are heaps of prasadams dosais, vadais, appams, suyyans, elladais, all heaped like a mountain of food. The Maniyakarar stands with a paper in his hand reading out names and number of dosais, vadais, etc. as mariyadai for ALL kainkaryakaras of temple from Arayar to the peon including for Madadipathi’s  like vanamamalai madam—10 dosai, 20 suyyan, and so on. As the periya thirunal is coming to an end everyone who has taken part gets a share of all prasadams.
As this is happening, the Arayars arrive …as usual 5 of them. the tingling of bells start and there is a hush, everyone  gets up, sitting in attention, and the arayars start with Thala thamarai verse ---almost the end of nammalvars verses. ( seeking the blessings of Kaaalmegapperumal of  Thirumogur).  Abinayam for thala thamarai begins and the arayar says Ezhaikku irangum perumal, adiyavarkku irangum perumal extolling His qualities with abinayams ,and we are transported to another world of yore, where we imagine Parasara bhattar organizing all these utsavams and it is said that he would  shed tears that Namperumal’s utsavams have come to an end so soon and it would be another full year before Namperumal would enjoy all this. The arayars are offered money by the devotees ..after the first pasuram the arayars get malai mariyadhai from Nammalwar. Thirumogur kalamegha perumal takes the soul through the last journey and hence is known as Vazhiththunai perumal. So few verses for Kalamegha perumal, followed by some more for Ananthapura, Vattaru, THirupper..Appakudathan perumal are sungby the Arayars.
