Kaisika Ekadasi Nov/Dec 2017
The Short stay at Thirukurungudi was cool, pleasant, and very jolly. Why Jolly was because anytime of the day the little village was empty…. Literally. No sign of any life, and for a place soon to be celebrating the Kaisika ekadesi in a day or two it was total silence. So we jolly well ruled it....
We had an entire river to ourselves to bathe, the delightful trek {in Jeep ,of course} up the Kalakkad hills was done alone ...Just 4 of us , (another couple from Chennai) and we had the beautifully cool Nambi yaru to ourselves. We were treated to a fish spa, free of cost, had the whole mountain place to change with no inhibitions and after worshipping Malaimale Nambi, we came down ravenously hungry, good simple robust food awaited us.
Many times into the temple of the VadivazhgiyaNambi...Found us wanting to go in more times....சங்கிணோடும்ஃநேமியோடும்ஃதாமரை கண்களோடும்...Mayakkum Mayan. Here he was really பச்சை மாமலை போல் மேனி பவழ வாய் கமலச்செங்கண்…
And even on the second day the temple town was as empty as if pied Piper had been there....We went to see Manimuthar dam and also agasthiyar falls....All of which were beautiful. back to base ..Still no sign of life.
Ahhhhh...The third day saw some activity. Some dancers practised and we wondered....If we were in a wrong place after all.
Still we waited...... Night came and with it many bus loads and car loads of bakthas... Now we were happy that such a huge temple was full. There were 2 huge LED screens and we opted to watch the Nampaduvaan drama on the screen... Only popcorn was missing. Otherwise it was Satyam cinemas with bedding though the plastic smile services missed too.
I leave it to you all to read up the story online but suffice it to say that the dramatists did a wonderful job by keeping most of the audience awake, right through 2am…
The next morning again woke up to a quiet place with minimal or no activity....Almost wants to make one retire there
