A Summer Camp Ho !
Life takes funny turns and twists.
Ive always enjoyed working with little children but have always been apprehensive of holding a summer camp.My daughter, as always insisted I put all my talents to use and have some children over as a testdrive. I d not even expected to sustain it...but loved every moment of it. The first session started on the 4th May.I chose mornings as I thought children will be very fresh.I had 5 children and one 8 year old to help me .Believe me, it was as if I drew energy from all 6 children. The energy in the house doubled in fact tripled in these past two weeks.
It has been a delightful journey learning from small children, teaching them how to enact, dancing with them, painting with them, reading to them, and doing a smattering of puppetry with them,.I never even imagined I would want to sit right next to the puppet screen so that I could see whats going on behind the screen, which is what the kids wanted to do,with a logical explanation too.
I never knew one could act like a limping capseller because he was tired....which was of course a reflection of my leg status.(I was limping as a result of a fall and a hairline crack)so my capseller limped too.which was such a compassionate take on my status.
It was a revealing moment to me when a child paid me a sweet compliment about my dress and and how much she loved me! It was a valentine day to me when all of them said they all loved me!Shubh who came in very hesitantly is enjoying himself today acting out a lions part, roaring like one and running around like a crow.We are surprised that he even has a voice.
It was the best time of my life when I had three children sitting on my lap listening to Ramayana and also looking at a visual treat which was pupp[etry,.It was the most effective way of story telling.
the question hour after the puppetry sounded like a madhouse as everyone shouted out new names but ended up getting small gifts.
I never had imagined id be so recharged after any session.
